Deja Vu - Another wet Mondello trackday
Trackdays seem to be ever harder to organise, the recession has really shifted peoples priorities and indulging in ones automotive obsession has been put on a back burner in place of more sensible activities like feeding a family and paying a mortgage. Even so, we still managed to convince 35 or so people to come join us for the second trackday Rob and myself have organised.

Becoming rather typical of this year’s trackdays is the apparent lack of grip and inability to drive in a straight line, this July “Summer” trackday has proved to be no different, we must have had 30 minutes of a dryish track before the ever present rain once again showered the tarmac giving us an ice like surface to drive on. Still there is always a silver lining and what not, I did not have to change my car’s setup as my road settings are fine for the conditions present today, less manual labour is always good.
Today with a rear wheel drive BMW it was absolutely impossible to keep the car in pointing forward, so much so I got black flagged in my second session for excessive “drifting”. What was ironic was that the next couple of sessions which I tried to keep the car tidy actually got me in a whole load more trouble(in regard to going off), it is far easier in these conditions to just carry the drift once the back kicks out rather than to attempt to get the car straight again immediately. After a while I gave up and I just went back to driving as before, much more fun and no more problem from marshalls(thanks). Another thing today were these pesky front wheel drive cars that I could not get off my backside, one I remembered especially was this Clio, yes you heard me, a Clio. Yes it was stripped out and what not but it really hurts us cocky BMW drivers when we can’t dispatch a petit Frenchie on a track. Need to kick some dirt on the car when I get back into the paddock to restore some world order.

No serious incidents in the day, except for the Octane.ie christened “drift god” having a huge excursion off the track. No damage fortunately, just a very amusing photo to show the workmates next week. Anyway here are some videos.
